DIY cum Sharing Session: Block Play

We hosted a DIY cum sharing session on block play at a local childcare centre.  The session facilitated by Alyna Chong was attended by a group of early childhood educators and parents.  Alyna started the session with a brief introduction on block play.  She asked and encouraged the attendees to share personal experiences of block play as a child. Alyna talked about provocations in the block play area.  One of the educators, Grace Victoria shared that the block play area in her room was visited by primarily boys.  She wondered if there are ways to make the block play area appealing to the children in her classroom. Alyna suggested adding soft fabric, toys such as cars & trucks, animals as well as personal photographs of people familiar to the children to the block play area. Educator Forum at Canadian International School

Hello Members, We have been invited to attend an Educator Forum at Canadian International School's Lakeside campus in Singapore. The forum will be held on the 30th of November 2015 Monday at 9am .  It is planned for an hour.  There would be representatives from a variety of universities and early childhood centers attending.  The focus of the forum is on the CIS Kindergarten and their newly appointed Outdoor Discovery Center and to provide the early childhood community an opportunity to share research in best practice and enter into educational conversations regarding education for the benefit of all. {Throwback 2014} This was a sharing session facilitated by Shanti, an early childhood practitioner who had returned from a study group in Reggio Emilia.  Shanthi shared her reflections of the study group and facilitated discussion among the attendees about principles of the Reggio Emilia approach that could be incorporated into their practice. The session was attended by several educators in Singapore.
