Study Tour - Taiwan 2017

The Learning Caravan organizes study groups for early childhood educators. These study groups are professional learning circles for early childhood educators who are motivated to gain deeper understanding of the emergent curriculum, engage in valuable discussions with global early childhood colleagues and generate fresh ideas that will transform their teaching practice.

Registration for the study groups is accepted up to 6 months prior to the commencement date.

Participants will meet as a community of learners to read, discuss, and learn from books that challenge them to develop new strategies and ideas for improving their practices.  The study programme will also include interactive activities, visits to progressive early childhood centres and sharing by early childhood professionals.

Use your own copy or get one here.
We will be reading and discussing "The Unscripted Classroom: Emergent Curriculum in Action." Participants need to have a copy of the book for the study group and would be required to read the book prior to the study group start date.  Active participation in the discussions is expected.  Use your own copy or get a new copy here.

Local Travel Arrangements
The Learning Caravan will arrange for the group to travel together to the host centres.  The group leader will meet with the participants at a location in the city area.  Mode of transport for previous study groups had been via public transport - tram, train or bus.  Participants need to purchase a local travel card for group travel to the host centres.  The choice of transport mode is dependent on the travel route to the host centres.  Some walking may be required so it is advised that participants have appropriate/comfortable footwear for walking.

Alternatively you may choose to meet us at the host centres.  Participants wishing to hire private transport are free to do so at their own cost.

Public transport in the countries we visit has been quite reliable, prompt and comfortable.  Schools that we visit are usually within an hour travel, not much more than going by private transport.

Our study group leader will arrive in the country 2 to 3 days before the start of the learning journey to prepare and also to try out and be familiar with the routes to the host centres and would have checked out the most convenient route prior to doing a recce of the locations where the host centres are situated.

Why we use public transport:
The study group size is kept quite small and chartering transport would mean that we would need to increase the fee substantially as the charter costs are quite high in some countries we visit.

The number of participants each day might also vary and different charges would then ensue and invite more questions on why the rates are different each day. It would be unproductive for our team to spend precious time to deal with such matters with individual participants going on the various study groups.

Another reason why we go with public transport as some study groups leaders do not hold a driving license or may not be comfortable driving in a different country or even state in the same country.   This is if we rent a car with very small groups.

Please contact us if you have any other questions regarding group travel arrangements.
