Workshop: Environment as the 3rd Teacher (Singapore) | Oct 8, 2016

This workshop is part of a series of continuing professional development programmes designed for the educator who is keen to learn more about the emergent curriculum or child-led curriculum.

The workshop has been well received by local and international early childhood practitioners.

"The environment is the most visible aspect of
the work done in the schools by all the protagonists.
It conveys the message that this is a place
where adults have thought about
the quality and instructive power of space."

- Lella Gandini

Who can attend: Pre-service and In-service teachers

We will focus on key principles of the environment as the third teacher and unpack what is meant by the idea of the environment as the third teacher.

Through group sharing and discussion, we will consider how choices that we make about the environment reflects our view of the child and how we can create play spaces that allow children to wonder, explore and discover.

“Look at your learning space with 21st century eyes:
Does it work for what we know about learning today,
or just for what we know about learning in the past?”

- Sir Ken Robinson

Getting here
The nearest MRT station is Lavender Station which is around 7 minutes walk away.  You will see a public carpark when you exit the MRT station (ICA side). Cut through the public carpark towards Crawford Bridge. Cross the road at the traffic lights over to the river side and you would see a white bridge that will lead you to a building with a quirky mural of a girl wearing a mustache on the top level.  We are on the 2nd level.

Feedback
"Thank you for the workshop! It's always energizing to spend time with other preschool educators and to reflect on teaching practices. The 3 hours flew by, the pace of the workshop was perfect, and I really enjoyed the balance of talk-time and hands-on time. The team activities (building with Popsicle sticks and clothes pins, and setting up a maze) were reflective of the kind of open-ended, collaborative, active learning that good early childhood education aims to provide. I hope that all of the participants in the class made that connection. You did a great job facilitating the workshop and sharing your passion for Reggio-inspired education in a short time. I would happily join another workshop that you lead!" - Khanh Pham, Vietnam
